Portland, Oregon-based creative. Writing, public relations, art.
There's just something about looking up, noticing, paying attention. On TikTok, there was a sound/trend all about "the art of noticing" and I think that's a lot of what I create is about. I don't attempt to create the next Mona Lisa or take the Newsweek photo of the year, instead, for me, it's all about the magic within the mundane, the beauty in the simple, the sublime within the trivial.
It's how a cup of coffee looks with light reflecting through it, or how the texture swirls when mixed with deep blues and greens in a painting. It's attempting to encapsulate a moment of magic, or as Straylight Run puts it, to "capsulize a feeling."
The journey from spending years believing I wasn't truly creative, to now creating and sharing this work here has been one of deep self-reflection and chiseling away at layers of bullshit I hid under. Even as I deeply held the belief that nothing I did could be considered "art," I took photos, I showed them to people, I even adorned the walls of my high school bedroom with photos I took. I was just absolutely terrified to accept this part of myself, to accept that I like creating this stuff, I like painting, I like showing people my work, and I like noticing these little moments that are often ignored.
I hope you'll stay a while and take a look at what I've done so far. If you like what you see, join the newsletter and I'll share more!
